Severin Schwan

Dr Severin Schwan has been Chairman of the Board of Roche Holding AG since 2023. He previously served as Chief Executive Officer of the Roche Group from 2008 to 2023 and has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2013.

He studied economics at the University of Innsbruck, the University of York, and the University of Oxford, earning the degree Magister rerum socialium oeconomicarum (Mag. rer. soc. oec.). He also studied law at the University of Innsbruck and earned a Doctorate in Law in 1993, including postgraduate research at the University of Louvain in Belgium.

He joined Roche in 1993 as a trainee in corporate finance in Basel. He subsequently held finance and management roles in Basel, Brussels, and Singapore. From 2008 to 2023, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Roche Group.
